(GREENFIELD) — Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner and Police Chief Robbie Haigh presided over a ceremony on Tuesday which saw the promotion of seven police personnel to new positions within the department.
Lieutenant William Gordon has been appointed Deputy Chief of Police, replacing Mark Williams in that role. Williams recently left the department to become the Chief of Police in East Longmeadow. Acting Lieutenant Daniel McCarthy is now permanent Lieutenant, Sergeant Todd Dodge has been appointed Lieutenant, Acting Sergeant Todd Clark is now permanent Sergeant, Officer Christopher Greene has appointed Sergeant, Detective Megan Cloutier is now a Sergeant, and Acting Sergeant Christopher Rowell has been appointed Sergeant.
The ceremony was held outside at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in compliance with state and city COVID-19 protocols.
Haigh said the last eleven months of the pandemic have been challenging to everyone, his force included.
“These times have been the most challenging of our careers.” said Haigh. “But that does not mean we quit. It does not mean we recoil and hide. And it does not mean we ignore what is going on around us.”
“It’s a time to be more visible and more accountable. It’s a time to listen, observe, and learn. It’s community policing at its fundamental basis.”
Haigh went on to thank all who have supported the officers and the department in general, and said he hopes all that has been accomplished in his seven years as Chief will continue into the future.
