(undated) — There is a renewed effort on Beacon Hill to do away with Native American mascots in Massachusetts schools. A bill has been filed in the House and Senate which would prohibit the use of Native American mascots and imagery in schools. Similar bills were filed in the last two sessions, but failed to generate enough support for passage. A number of Native American activist groups are pushing for the new bill, which they say will end a damaging legacy which has harmed and perpetuated certain stereotypes regarding native people.
