(Warwick, MA) The Warwick Fire Department, along with other area departments in Franklin County, have received a $8,500 grant for equipment as part of the FY21 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.
“In our most difficult moments, firefighters are there to help,” said Governor Charlie Baker during the announcement of the grant recipients.
Other area recipients include Athol, who received $15,000, Buckland who received $8,461.10, Charlemont who received $8,469.83, Erving who received $7,990, Gill who received $8,500, Greenfield who received $15,000, Hatfield who received $9,937.97, Hawley who received $8,500, Leverett who received $8,500, New Salem who received $8,481.41, Northfield who received $9,810, Orange who received $12,500, Plainfield who received $6,313.95, Rowe who received $8,499.18, Shelburne Falls who received $8,360, Shelburne who received $8,500, Shutesbury who received $8,473, Turners Falls who received $12,500, and Wendell who received $8,496.43.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought great challenges to firefighters and first responders while simultaneously making their work more dangerous,” said Lt. Governor Karyn Polito.
Warwick will use the money to fund a new radio project for the department that will take effect in 2021. A regional submission was made by the Franklin County Council of Governments for the grants.
