WHATELY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A second alarm fire broke out just after midnight, early Saturday morning at the Rainbow Motel at 64 State Road in Whately displacing seventeen occupants and bringing in aid from ten communities to the scene.

After the fire was reported along with a first fire alarm assignment, arriving units then found the structure fully involved and struck a second alarm.

All of the occupants from the motel were evacuated without injury to them or the firefighters.

Fire units from South Deerfield, Hatfield, Erving, Turners Falls, Hadley, Conway, Bernardston, Northampton, Greenfield, Northfield, Deerfield, Williamsburg, Montague Center, and the South County Ambulance, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Department of Fire Services, Shelburne Control, Massachusetts State Police, Whately Police provided assistance.
