(Greenfield, MA) Updates are slow regarding the explosion on Prospect Street earlier this week in Greenfield, but Greenfield Fire Captain of Operations Alexander Cooley gave a few more details about what occurred.
When fire crews responded to 19 Prospect Street from reports of an explosion, they found heavy smoke coming from the house and an occupant that had self extricated. Crews made entry to the basement to conduct a primary search and extinguish the fire, but due to structural damage interior operations were discontinued. Crews on the exterior conducted a search to confirm no other occupants were in the building. The sole occupant and injured party was transported to the hospital and the building was ordered demolished. Cooley said it was a multi agency effort.
“We are grateful for the assistance of these agencies in ensuring safety of the scene and surroundings while conducing a thorough investigation. Our thoughts are with the patient transported from the scene and their family,” said Cooley.
No additional information is available regarding the condition of the injured party. The fire and the explosion are still under investigation.
