STOW, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — As dry weather conditions persist, any fire could spread rapidly and intensely, quickly becoming difficult to extinguish. The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services is advising the public to refrain from any activity involving sparks, flames, or outdoor heat sources during the heightened risk of outdoor fires.

In October, at least 196 wildfires were reported, high above the average 15 fires that have typically occurred in October since 2018.
