ORANGE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UPDATE #2: Orange Fire and Police Departments responded at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday morning to a fully involved 2 alarm fire on Old South Road. Prior to their arrival the rear of the structure had collapsed, so crews executed an exterior attack. They worked with mutual aid departments to get the fire under control without injury. The fire is still under investigation.
UPDATE: The Orange Fire Department is working to reopen Route 202 and confining operations to Old South Road which will remain closed for the time being.
04/03/2024 5:00 a.m. A second alarm fire broke out on Old South Road in Orange early Wednesday morning. Orange Fire responded at approximately 2:38 a.m. and as of approximately 4:30 a.m., were still on scene. Orange Fire is utilizing a tanker shuttle to get water from a hydrant near Gelinas Companies due to a lack of hydrants in the area on Old South Road.
Old South Road is inaccessible from Route 202, the fire department is warning the public to expect delays in the area and possible disruption in water quality. Turners Falls Fire Department is providing station coverage for Orange.
