(Greenfield, MA) The office of Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner has released a statement on social media regarding the recent water and sewer rate increase in Greenfield.

“The water and sewer rate increases beginning July 1, 2020 are necessary to help maintain important infrastructure in the city,” the statement reads.

The Leyden Glen Reservoir and mandated repairs to aging sewer infrastructure as sited as necessary expenses that warrant the increase. Additionally, the statement does say that the City of Greenfield does not have any plans to build a new water and sewer treatment plant.

“All of this is done to provide citizens with clean drinking water and functioning water and sewer infrastructure,” said the Mayor’s office in the statement. The Mayor’s office recommends conserving and reducing water use to account for the increased rates.
