(BOSTON, MA) — Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on Wednesday announced new funding and resources coming to the Bay State in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic. Baker said $130 million dollars in new funding is coming to Massachusetts to support nursing facilities, as well as upwards of 1 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for front line health care workers. Mobile testing has been ramped up at 28 sites across the state, which Baker says has made Massachusetts one of the top states in the country in helping to slow the spread of the virus.

Despite the actions taken by his administration, Baker conceded that the Commonwealth is heading into the apex of the crisis right now.

“At this point in time … we are in the surge, yes,” Baker said, adding that his conversations with the health care community in recent days suggest Massachusetts is now in the midst of that influx.

Baker said that, with the addition of resources and health care capacity coming online in the next five to seven days, he thinks “we are pretty well positioned to deal with this.”
