(MONTAGUE) –The mitigation work on the riverbank collapse along Millers Falls Road in Turners Falls is just about complete. Department of Public Works Superintendent Tom Bergeron says the repair work has worked out extremely well, and saved the town quite a bit of money. Bergeron estimates the town saved about a quarter of a million dollars by doing the work themselves instead of hiring an outside firm. The budget for the project was $172,000, and the work was ultimately completed  under budget.

Repairing the collapse had become a priority item for the town as it threatened Millers Falls Road itself. The collapse was first noticed last December, and became more pronounced over the spring and summer.
