(Greenfield, MA) — A former Shelburne priest accused of killing an altar boy in 1972 died of complications related to COVID 19. Former priest Richard Lavigne died Friday at Baystate Franklin Medical Center from a COVID-related respiratory problems as he was facing arrest for the murder of altar boy Danny Croteau. Lavigne’s death caused the Hampden County District Attorney to close the Croteau case, effectively naming Lavigne as the murderer.
