(Greenfield, MA) The three-person committee assembled by Greenfield City Council met on Wednesday evening for the first time. The purpose of the committee is to seek out sources of funding for the new fire station in Greenfield. The first item on their agenda was electing a chair and Derek Helie was elected into that position. Helie has a background in construction and project managing.
The committee spoke about the importance of communicating with the Greenfield Fire Department to discuss what their needs are in terms of funding and get estimated dollar amounts in order for the committee to seek out funding sources. Ideally, the funding would not come from other city departments but from fundraising or other avenues.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 6th at 6 pm and the committee will be inviting Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan among other department heads to discuss the needs and dreams of the future fire station.
