AMHERST, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Amherst Fire Department reported record high call volumes Halloween night, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. the department received 41 calls, mostly EMS related.
Over half of the calls required mutual aid assistance despite the department bringing in additional staff for the holiday.
The department reported that about half of the calls were from the UMass campus and 35 of the 41 calls were primarily caused by alcohol or drug intoxication.
