(Amherst, MA) — An Amherst Middle School student is dead after taking part in a so-called “blackout challenge” on a popular social media site. Thirteen-year-old Nate Squires died Monday at a local hospital after taking part in an on-line challenge on the “Tik Tok” app, where people are encouraged to choke themselves until they lose consciousness. A Go Fund Me page has been established to benefit Squires’ family, and school counselors are being made available to students who may be upset by the loss of their classmate.
