(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield was able to have a small ceremony April 1 to mark April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was cancelled and Mayor Roxann Wedegartner went on Facebook Live to read the proclamation naming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This year, a small crowd gathered on the Greenfield Town Common to mark the ceremony. Wedegartner remarked on the impact of the pandemic on child and domestic violence, noting that one of the consequences of the shut down was an increase in both. After Wedegartner spoke, Greenfield Police Chief Robert Haigh and an assistant DPW worker raised the flag to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month. April is also national Child Abuse Prevention Month.
