(Northfield, MA) The fire that broke out Friday on Pine Street in Northfield and displaced the tenants of all three apartments in the building, has been determined to have been caused by an electrical outlet according the the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Northfield Fire Department responded to the fire just before 9 p.m. on Friday when someone in the area noticed smoke and fire coming from the third floor of the building. The residents displaced by the fire found temporary housing and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

A two-alarm structure fire broke out on Pine Street in Northfield Friday evening and area fire departments were dispatched just before 9 p.m. and worked into the early hours of Saturday. Northfield Fire Department crews were able to contain the fire to the third floor of the building.
The family of five occupying the third floor apartment, where the fire originated, was not home at the time of the fire. A family member has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help them replace their lost possessions. Tenants of all three apartments are temporarily displaced while damage and repair estimates are in progress.
Mutual aid was provided by Bernardston, Erving, Greenfield, Warwick, Turners Falls, Gill, Hinsdale and Winchester, New Hampshire, and Vernon, Vermont Fire Departments.
