(Greenfield, MA) *Update* Daniel Burrell, 54, from Greenfield was arraigned in Greenfield District Court Friday after Thursday’s explosion on Union Street. He plead not guilty to six charges including explosives charges, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct.
Burrell told the police he was bored and wanted to see what would happen if he set the tank on fire. The propane tank was thrown from his second story apartment.
Burrell’s bail was set at $5,000 on the condition he undergoes a mental health evaluation.

An arrest was made following the detonation of an incendiary device on Union Street in Greenfield Thursday afternoon. According to the Greenfield Police, a small propane tank covered in a sheet was set on fire and exploded. There were several other undetonated devices were found at 41 Union Street. One house nearby was evacuated and others were asked to shelter in place.
Assisting in the investigation are Patrol Officers and Detectives of the Greenfield Police Department, the Greenfield Fire Department, Department of Fire Services District 4 Hazardous Materials Team, Massachusetts State Police Crime Services, Detective Unit and Bomb Team, and the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad.
