ATHOL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A Monty Tech graduating senior’s quick action upon seeing smoke in their Athol home minimized the resulting damage Wednesday when they called 911 immediately. Athol fire received reports of the structure fire on Conant Road just after 9 a.m., when they arrived and found heavy smoke and no nearby fire hydrants, a first alarm was struck bringing in mutual aid from surrounding communities including Orange, Petersham, Phillipston, and Royalston. The fire was quickly knocked down before causing even more damage to the home.
