ATHOL, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Athol community members have spoken. In a recent survey from the town, residents expressed their desire to see expanded dining options downtown.

The Downtown Athol Restaurant Study, funded by a $25,000 state grant, also found that 54% of food expenses are being spent at restaurants while 46% is spent on groceries, a trend that is expected to grow.

The one type of dining Athol residents say they don’t need more of is pizza options.

Town departments are now working on how to bring in more restaurant business, investigating locations and taking a look at the permitting process.
