(Orange, MA) While crews were fighting the fire on Mechanic Street in Orange Monday, a second structure fire began at 80 Bacon Street in Orange. Crews were alerted to the fire by a motorist who drove up to the Mechanic Street scene saying there was a building with the fire alarms going off and smoke coming out of the windows and door.

Two residents suffered smoke and soot inhalation after they arrived home to find a fire in their kitchen. Firefighters were able to locate the residents’ cat uninjured who had run up to the second floor and hid safely in a closet. One occupant was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The home was deemed uninhabitable and the American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
