WESTWOOD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The pace of Northeast gasoline price declines is accelerating as the summer driving season wraps up.

The average gas price in Massachusetts is down four cents over last week ($3.36), averaging $3.32 per gallon. Today’s price is 14 cents lower than a month ago ($3.46) and 42 cents lower than this day last year ($3.74). Massachusetts’s average gas price is the same as the national average.

“The price for a gallon of regular unleaded is now below $3 a gallon in nine U.S. states,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson, AAA Northeast. “Prices here continue to inch lower each week, but it remains unclear if we’ll dip below the $3 mark in the Northeast.”

AAA Northeast’s Sept. 3 survey of fuel prices found the current national average down three cents from last week ($3.35), averaging $3.32 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 15 cents lower than a month ago ($3.47) and 49 cents lower than this day last year ($3.81).
