(Bernardston, MA) The Bernardston Veteran’s Club received some much needed help from the local Kiwanis club. Andy Parkinson said that the donation was meant to supplement at $10,000 project, originally funded by Home Depot. Parkinson said the additional $5,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club was meant to help with additional expenses such as replacement of an old sink and and old stove. Parkinson said Home Depot has a program to help veteran’s organizations, but was unable to follow through with the renovations. When additional expenses popped up, the Kiwanis club stepped in to help.
“We are kind of one big family that keeps going round and around,” said Parkinson.
With the newly discovered expenses of the new sink, new stove, and new stove top the $10,000 project became at least an $18,000 project. Parkinson said the Bernardston Veteran’s Club had to come up with that additional money themselves, so the Kiwanis Club stepped in to help. The Kiwanis Club meets at the Bernardston Vet’s Club in the winter. The Bernardston Veteran’s Club is a club for all veterans, said Parkinson, unlike the VFW which serves veterans who have served in an active war.
