GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Extravaganja, an annual cannabis event held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds around April 20th, will now have to designate a smoking area after the Greenfield Board of License Commissioners set the condition as part of their approval for the entertainment license at Tuesday’s meeting.
Extravaganja was originally held in the Amherst in 1991 and while the event has moved around since then, there has never been a designated smoking area. Recently, cannabis and other events held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds have incited complaints from the neighborhood regarding smell and noise.
Greenfield police Lieutenant Jason Haskins noted that this specific event, Extravaganja, has not had any significant incidents since it has been held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield.
This year’s event will be more regulated with the designated smoking area where IDs can be checked for age and a representative for Extravaganja, Cannabis Education Coalition President Blake Weiss, said the event will feature more activists and speakers.
