(Amherst, MA) Police in Amherst are appealing to the public for help locating a hit and run driver who failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian crossing Massachusetts Avenue in a crosswalk on the UMass campus around 10:15Pm Monday. The white or silver color SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a 20 year-old UMass student near Sunset Avenue. The male student was seriously injured and Baystate Medical Center. The SUV failed to stop and continued travelling eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue. A Be-On-The-Lookout has been issued for the SUV with possible front end damage. Anyone with any information about the SUV is asked to call the UMass police at 545-2121 or

“We are appealing to the public for their help identifying the driver involved in this incident but appealing to the driver as well,” said Northwestern First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne. “He or she likely knows what they did and this is their opportunity to come forward and do the right thing.”
