(Greenfield, MA) — A large tree fell across the Mohawk Trail in Greenfield Friday morning, causing a major traffic jam. The tree fell across the road from the back edge of the Newton School playground toward the Shell gas station across the street. A car with Vermont plates could be seen partially under the fallen tree. Traffic westbound on the Trail is being diverted at the traffic signal at River Street/Shelburne Road, while eastbound traffic is being detoured though the Shell station and back onto the Trail into downtown Greenfield. Motorists should avoid the Mohawk Trail east of the I-91 rotary until the scene is cleared.
