LEVERETT, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A brush fire broke out in the area of North Leverett and Richardson Roads in Leverett Friday and burned approximately three acres in under an hour before the fire was brought under control just after 1 p.m.
According to the Leverett Fire Department, two structures were threatened by the “out-of-control” fire that was caused by an outdoor maple syrup boil, which spread due to the wind and dry conditions. No injuries or structure damage were reported.
Mutual aid was provided by Shutesbury Fire, Montague Center Fire, Sunderland Fire, Shutesbury Police, Leverett Police, and Leverett Highway Departments.
Open burn season runs through May 1st and permits are issued on the day of fire, unless weather conditions are unfavorable.
