(Greenfield, MA) New details regarding the fire on Leyden Road this morning in Greenfield have just been released by the Greenfield Fire Department. Captain Alexander Cooley said up to eight people were displaced from the fire. The cause of the fire was improper disposal of ashes from a wood stove. The condition of the house is uninhabitable.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that you have working smoke and CO detectors, as well as allowing ashes to cool before disposal, and keeping them in a covered container at least 10 feet away from the home and other buildings,” said Cooley.
Two cats also died in the fire.
