(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield City Council Precinct 8 seat is vacant following Councilor Douglas Mayo’s resignation and Council President Dan Guin is prepared for the council to consider an appointment in November. The appointment is short-term, fulfilling the former councilors term until the city votes on a Precinct 8 Councilor in the Biennial Election in November 25. Registered voters living in Precinct 8 can be considered for the appointment by sending their letter of interest and resume to citycouncil@greenfield-ma.gov by Wednesday October 25th at 4 p.m.

City Councilor Douglas Mayo has resigned from City Council, effective September 21, 2023, leaving a vacancy in Precinct 8. According to the Greenfield City Charter, “the Council President, with the advice of the committee chairs, may fill that seat by appointing a person residing in that Precinct…subject to a two- thirds vote of the Councilors present.,” This appointment will fulfill the unexpired term of Mr. Mayo until the Biennial Election in November 2025.

City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center every third Wednesday of the month. Councilor Mayo served on two subcommittees: Community Relations and Economic Development, which meet on the third Monday and the second Tuesday of each month, respectively.

Any registered voter residing in Precinct 8 who wishes to be considered for this position should send a letter of interest, resumes are also appreciated, to the Council’s Office at citycouncil@greenfield-ma.gov, by Wednesday October 25th 2023 at 4 pm.

Council President Daniel Guin anticipates the Council to consider a recommendation in November so a new Councilor can be appointed at the regular Council meeting scheduled for November 15th, 2023.
