GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield City Council voted to adopt Mass General Law Chapter 32B, Section 19, which authorizes the City of Greenfield to negotiate changes to its employee health insurance plans with a collective bargaining agreement to transfer from Health New England to the Group of Insurance Commission, GIC. This change will help alleviate some of the financial burden with rising health insurance costs.

The Council was considering two pathways to transition to GIC, one through Section 19 and another via Section 21-23. Ultimately, after much input from municipal employees, union representatives, the Mayor, and City Counsel, the Councilors decided to go with Section 19.
