(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield City Councilors voted on three Mayoral appointments on Wednesday. Amanda Abramson-Clarke for the Board of License Commissioners, Amy McMahan for the Public Safety Commission and Victor Moschella for the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Councilor Sheila Giilmour commented that the Mayoral Appointment process is “flawed” and that people who have expressed the desire to serve on boards and commissions have not been given the chance.
When it came to McMahan, Councilor Katherine Golub said that while she has “nothing against this candidate” her “concern as an A&O member for months advocating for a process to create a public safety commission that integrates a wide range of viewpoints and experience and [she has] not received a single response from the Mayor on that and that is why [she] can’t vote yes on this.”
Several councilors expressed that McMahan was qualified for the role including Council President Dan Guin who said “Amy checks so many boxes in this community, as a business owner, as someone that stands up for what she believes in. I think she would be an asset on committee, I think she’d be an asset on anything she sets her mind to, and she has my whole-hearted vote tonight.”
Abrasion was unanimously voted positively on and Moschella was an amendment from a previous appointment from full to alternate member.
