GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — At the Tuesday, October 8th meeting the Greenfield Economic Development Committee voted unanimously to give a positive recommendation on the open space/cluster development amendment to city council.

After the Committee forwarded the amendment to full council, the amendment was sent back to Committee for further discussion at their October 8th meeting and to allow opportunity for public input.

During the meeting the Committee spoke with Greenfield Planning Director Eric Twarog and David Singer, Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals about the proposed zoning amendment. Twarog said the existing open space/cluster development ordinance was only used in the case of the Silvercrest development and that project took over a decade to complete.

Precinct 2 Councilor Rachel Gordon made an amendment, that was accepted by the Committee, to the proposal to add a density bonus of 10% if the development contained 20% or more of accessible housing.

Now the amended proposal will head back to City Council and will require a two thirds majority to pass.
