(Colrain, MA) — Quick thinking and action by a Colrain police officer prevented a fire from spreading Wednesday afternoon. Colrain fire officials were called to a reported structure fire on Main Road at around 1:30 pm. The fire had begun in the home’s driveway but had not spread to the adjacent house. The officer was able to snuff out the blaze with a garden hose and a fire extinguisher. The cause of the fire was a spontaneous combustion of sawdust from a flooring vacuum bag in an outside trash barrel. No injuries were reported.
