MONTAGUE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In January of this year, Montague was awarded funding through the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program to either build an addition to the Carnegie Library or build a new library at 38 Avenue A, a project that has been in the works for over 100 years according to the Montague Public Libraries as it was realized the space was too small for the community in 1915 by the Library’s Board of Trustees.

The library is also lacking adequate space for the library’s collection, community services, and there are several accessibility issues. The state funding would cover 67% of eligible expenses for the project.

The first of several community outreach events will take place on Tuesday, July 29th at 6 p.m. in the Montague Senior Center at 62 5th Street and via Zoom to hear from the project Architects and share ideas.
