GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield City Council Community Relations Committee voted Monday night to positively recommend the resolution declaring Greenfield a Safe City for Transgender and Gender Diverse Persons to the council.

At Monday’s CRC meeting, community members came to share their stories of how Greenfield has become a safe place to live non-traditional gender expressions and how they hope this resolution provides security for their community.

In the resolution submitted by City Council President Lora Wondolowski, it states that the resolution is motivated by “the nation-wide surge of anti- transgender legislation” and that the City resolves to “recognize the importance of gender-affirming healthcare as a matter of health, privacy, and equality” and that the City will not use their resources for “detaining persons for solely seeking or providing gender-affirming care” or “for cooperating with or providing information to any individual or out-of-state agency or department regarding the provision of gender-affirming healthcare or gender-affirming mental healthcare performed in Greenfield and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

The council is expected to vote on the resolution at Wednesday’s full council meeting in the John Zon Community Center and via Zoom at 6:30 p.m.
