(Colrain, MA) Financial exploitation is the number one crime against elders that is investigated by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. To prevent against this type of crime, the Consumer Protection Unit with DA representative Rachel Seneca will be presenting a fraud, scam, elder protection program at the Colrain Central School on August 14th at 6:30 p.m. The presentation seeks to raise awareness of scams that have cost consumers billions of dollars and will cover phone, mail, internet scams, as well as identity theft protection. There will also be a portion dedicated to elder safety and empowerment as it is estimated that 1 in 10 elders may fall victim to some form of abuse.
