(Northampton, MA) Brooke Hauser, former Editor and Chief at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, announced over Twitter earlier today that she has been laid off from her job.

“I was just told my job was eliminated. I love my staff, I love this paper, and I love this community. What a shame,” said Hauser on her personal Twitter account.

Michael Moses, Publisher of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Greenfield Recorder, Amherst Bulletin, Valley Advocate, and Athol Daily News reportedly told Masslive that Joan Livingston, current Editor of the Greenfield Recorder, will be taking over the responsibilities as Editor In Chief of the Pioneer Valley.  He also apparently blamed the pandemic as the main factor in the decision to restructure.

Mike Moran, sports editor at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, also announced today that he accepted a buy out and this will be his last week at the newspaper.

“As for my next move, we will see. I’m looking forward to the break. It’s been my pleasure covering Hampshire County. I worked with many talented individuals who made me a better reporter, writer and editor. The memories are endless. A final column will come later this week,” said Moran on social media.

Dusty Christensen, Investigative Reporter at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, tweeted that at least seven other colleagues besides Hauser were let go at the Gazette.

“We are hearing a lot of sadness and anger as we say goodbye to her and at least seven other colleagues this week. When will the cuts stop?” said Christensen.

It is unclear who the additional seven colleagues are besides Moran.
