After body discovered, Greenfield man arrested in New York State
An investigation into the discovery of an unidentified deceased man inside a Chapman Street apartment Monday night led to the arrest today of the former tenant in the apartment.
Massachusetts State Police on Tuesday obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of murder for Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, who formerly lived inside the apartment where the deceased male was found. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to determine the exact cause of death or the identity of the deceased individual. Investigators believe the death is a homicide.
Greenfield Police were called to the apartment Monday afternoon after someone reported a foul odor coming from one of the apartments. Police entered the residence and located the deceased victim on the floor. No one else was present inside the apartment at the time.
Police later located and arrested Herberger-Brown at the Albany International Airport. It is unclear when Herberger-Brown will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment on the murder charge.
The case remains under investigation by the Greenfield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
Criminal charges are based on probable cause to believe a person has committed a crime.
