(Deerfield, MA)  — The town of Deerfield will not be taking a piece of North Main Street property by eminent domain. Annual town meeting members last night voted down a proposal to take the nearly 8 acre parcel owned by the family of the late Charles Mark. The town had been eyeing the land as a possible site for a new band shell and recreational space. Town meeting voters also denied a motion to allow the selectboard to negotiate to buy the land with Mark’s family members, who inherited the property and say they have no interest in selling. The town recently came to terms on the purchase of another nearby property owned by the Pervere family.
