DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Deerfield’s Special Town Meeting will be held this evening at 6 p.m. in the Frontier School Auditorium to vote on 9 articles including funding $130,000 in emergency restoration work related to July 2023 storm damage as required by the EPA.
Residents will also be voting on whether the town will establish permanent protection of a total of 81 acres land on town parcels of land located on Pine Nook Road and Old Pine Nook Road.
A citizens’ petition for the purchase of 300 electronic voting devices to use in Town Meetings is on the warrant. The petition states the devices are “essential for the future of our town’s governance and will lead to better, more efficient and fair Town Meetings.” The electronic tabulators will ensure everyone’s vote is recorded as the current process is “prone to human error which can impact the town’s finances.”
