GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) —  The Greenfield Planning Board and Economic Development Committee held a joint public hearing on several zoning amendments Thursday evening, hearing from residents on zoning amendment proposals on Accessory Dwelling Units, height requirements, and requirements for mixed-use buildings in the Central Commercial District.

More residents came out in support of Accessory Dwelling Units and expressing the desire to not see these limited further than the state requirements, as many believe ADUs could aid in the housing crisis.

The Greenfield Planning Board and Economic Development Committee agreed that the proposed requirement of commercial space on the first floor of buildings in the Central Commercial District should be limited to the existing business portions of Main and Federal Streets, and Bank Row, as opposed to the whole of the business district that includes residential areas.

Mayor Ginny Desorgher also attended the Joint Public Hearing on Thursday and said she would support the amendment if restricted to those areas.

The four citizen’s petitions that were filed last week in relation to ADUs, will have their own public hearing on April 8th.
