DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) —  Last week a traffic stop by state police led to the arrest of an individual who had a warrant for charges of “assault and battery on a police officer, reckless operation, and failure to stop for police,” according to a statement from the Massachusetts State Police.

A trooper from the Shelburne Falls Barracks stopped a vehicle on I-91 in Deerfield for speeding and upon examination of the driver’s license, the trooper discovered the warrant.

Upon calling for backup, the man became “uncooperative” and when back up arrived the man was removed from the vehicle and placed in a cruiser. During the vehicle search, the troopers found a knife and a plastic bag containing what appeared to be a white substance similar to crack cocaine. Further searching uncovered what appeared to be heroin, more of the white substance, and two digital scales.
