Voters turned out in big numbers yesterday in western Massachusetts, as much of the rest of the country. As expected, support for Vice President Biden was strong, doubling the votes for President Trump in Greenfield. Support was also strong in the north Quabbin area, which traditionally votes conservative during presidential elections.
In contested races, for US Senate, Edward Markey easily won reelection, along with US House Representative James McGovern. Question One, the right to repair passed. Question Two, which supported ranked choice voting did not pass with only 45 percent voting in favor.
In the 2nd Franklin District, with 88% of precincts reporting, the incumbent Susannah Whipps is ahead of her challenger Will LaRose by over 6000 votes as of early this morning.
In Greenfield, Question #3 passed. The city will adopt a Community Preservation Act. The vote was 5438 to 3440.
In Montague, Question #3 passed which instructs State Representative Natalie Blais to vote in favor of legislation that achieves 100% renewable energy use within two decades. Question #4 in Montague, also passed and recommends Blais to vote in favor of changes to the Legislature rules to make the results of legislative committees available on the state website.
