COLRAIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A reported electrical fire at 13 Main Road in Colrain Sunday morning was found to be caused by an overloaded power strip.

The fire was initially given a 1st alarm to bring in mutual aid from Halifax, Vermont, Shelburne, Shelburne Falls, Heath, Charlemont and Greenfield fire departments, however it was downgraded after the burned electrical power strip was found. Mutual aid was still provided on scene by Halifax and Shelburne departments while Heath crews covered the Colrain station.

The family’s pet alerted the occupant to the fire and no injuries were reported. Residents are cautioned in their use of power strips, which can be overloaded causing them to heat up and in some cases, spark fires.
