FRANKLIN COUNTY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — With the season change and days growing shorter, collisions with deer on the roads are ramping up. The highest number of deer related crashes occur between October and December around sunset. This period coincides with deer mating season in an area where populations have grown significantly over the past few decades. In Massachusetts, there were 1,908 deer crashes from October to December in 2023, the equivalent of one crash every 70 minutes.
