ERVING, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Erving Elementary is implementing a student mental health program called “Bridge for Resilient Youth” to address the higher than average at-risk population at the school.

A screening was conducted and showed that 7% of students were “high risk” and 32% at “some risk”, both categories showing higher numbers than other participating districts. The “Bridge for Resilient Youth” program coordinates mental health strategies to help students access classroom instruction productively.

The program has been implemented across the state at 180 schools. At Erving Elementary, a full-time teacher, counselor, and school psychologist will staff the “student success center” where students will learn emotional regulation strategies.

The Healey-Administration is partially funding the program, however the district can expect some out-of-pocket costs which will be minimized as the school already has the necessary staff to run the program.
