ERVING, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — There will be a conversation regarding the design alternatives for the Route 2 reconstruction project in Erving Center held on Wednesday, August 14th at the Erving Senior and Community Center at 6 p.m. The designs address the need to improve Route 2 as a State Highway while also considering the commercial and residential uses of Erving’s Main Street.
From the town of Erving:
The Town is hosting a conversation with Erving residents to discuss Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Project # 604818- Erving- Reconstruction of Route 2 (Erving Center) from MM 62.9 to MM 63.9. This project is being overseen by MassDOT and is being engineered by Green International Affiliates, Inc. The project is meant to address Route 2 improvements from the east side of the intersection with Mountain Road through to Stoneville.
MassDOT and Green International have been studying this section of Route 2 for several years and as a result have prepared some design concepts for consideration and feedback. This conversation will be focused on reviewing design options for addressing safety concerns in the village, with particular focus on the intersections with Route 2 at North Street, Church Street, High Street, and East Prospect Street.
MassDOT and Green International are aware of the concerns for speeding vehicles and pedestrian safety. The conceptual designs are attempting to balance the need to improve Route 2 so that it can function as a State Highway while also serving as Erving’s Main Street with commercial and residential uses. The Town is arranging these conversations between our MassDOT partners, our residents and officials, and the greater community because of the serious concerns that need to be considered to improve the safety of the Route 2 corridor. We know that our residents, public works and public safety members are well versed in these issues, and we believe can provide important feedback to further develop the concepts.
Please consider joining us for this conversation. We will begin promptly at 6:00PM with a focus on the areas between North Street and High Street.
