GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The organizers of the Relay For Life of Franklin County have announced a major change to the event. The Relay For Life will now be a 12-hour one-day event on Saturday June 7 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield. The relay will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. that day.
The change came about in response to the shift in the landscape of the post-COVID world and the preferences of relay participants. This year’s event will also utilize a different part of the fairgrounds.
“Our event is all about supporting each other,” said Christopher Luippold, one of the volunteer Relay For Life event chairs. “In recent years we have used less of the track as a way to bring our teams closer together. With this new format, we want to utilize the amazing work the Fairgrounds has done and use the newly paved roadways as our new walking path. Keeping our teams close together and able to cheer each other on as the participants walk by.”
The change in format will also allow the Relay to offer different types of activities during the event. Craft and food vendors will be able to set up a site during the event. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor should contact Corki Demers at corkidee@gmail.com. Other new and exciting activities will be announced by the leadership team as the event gets closer.
“We are very excited about this change, but we know that our participants and community members will have questions,” Luippold said. “We’re asking our community to send us your questions so we can answer them during our kickoff event on February 15.” The kickoff event will be held at the South Deerfield Polish American Citizens Club on February 15, 2025, at 10 am. Questions can be submitted via email to Monique.turner@cancer.org or via a form which can be found on the Relay For Life website at www.relayforlife.org/franklincountyma.
