GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Local families are concerned about their reproductive specimens being stored at Baystate Health’s Reproductive Biology Lab in Springfield after Baystate announced the lab will be decommissioned. According to a statement from Baystate Health shared with Franklin County Now, specialty fertility services are moving to Boston IVF and anyone who is storing specimens with Baystate Health should call (413) 794-1958 to speak with a member of the care team.

Statement from Baystate Health provided by Manager of Public Relations, Heather Duggan reads:

“We recognize this decision is deeply personal and we are taking steps to support our patients. Baystate Health is actively reaching out to families with stored sperm, eggs, and embryos by mail and by phone to ensure the best possible solutions, including the option to transfer specimens for those who would like to continue to preserve them.

Anyone who believes they may have sperm, eggs, or embroys[sic] stored with us, even if they have not received a letter, is encouraged to call (413) 794-1958 to speak with a member of the care team.

In December of 2023, Baystate Health transitioned delivery of specialty fertility services to Boston IVF. Existing patients were notified of the transition of services at that time. Now, as a result of that transition, the Baystate Reproductive Biology Lab will be decommissioned.”
