TURNERS FALLS, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Franklin County Technical School is working with MassHire to offer free Career Technical Institute training courses for eligible adults. This year the program will offer courses in Automotive Technology, Electrical, Horticulture, and Welding and Metal Fabrication. Eligible adults must earn $49,100 or less annually to take the courses free of charge.

Franklin County Technical School, in collaboration with the MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center, is offering free Career Technical Institute (CTI) training courses for eligible adult learners to give them a leg up on a good paying career in the trades.

This semester, FCTS will offer CTI courses in Automotive Technology, Electrical, Horticulture, and Welding and Metal Fabrication. As long as applicants meet the income criteria of earning $49,100 or less annually, they will not be required to pay for tuition, fees, or materials.

The four courses will run for 12 weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 4-9 p.m., beginning on September 9 at Franklin County Technical School, 82 Industrial Boulevard, Turners Falls.

FCTS will also provide ongoing Electrical Code Classes for a fee of $655, plus $110 for a textbook, beginning on September 10. The course will run for 15 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Electrical Code Classes course is geared toward electrical apprentices who are interested in obtaining a journeyman’s electrical license. At the end of the course, students will be prepared to take their Massachusetts Journeyman State Exams.

Other professional development courses available for a fee are Become a Home Inspector, Veterinary Assistant, and Comp TIA Certification Training: A+, Network+, Security +.
Personal enrichment courses offered in person or online for a fee include knitting, photography, Spanish, sign language, cooking and baking, creating WordPress websites, quilt painting and others.

Starting in January, Franklin County Technical School will partner with The Peterson School to offer adult education courses in basic air conditioning, plumbing and oil burner testing.
