WHATELY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A Whately home caught fire Saturday morning when sparks from a pellet stove vent ignited a fire on the porch, which quickly spread into the wall of the farmhouse. Firefighters were on scene within three minutes of the alarm toning, with engines there within ten minutes.
According to the Whately Fire Department, a passerby is to thank for alerting the occupants of the home to the fire and assisting the homeowner with initial fire suppression efforts. Crews from Whately, Hatfield and South Deerfield responded to the North Street residence to extinguish the fire.
The ban on outdoor fires will continue until significant rainfall comes to the area.
